What is Markdown?

Markdown is a simple way to format text—like making headings, lists, or bold text—using plain typing.

You don’t need to know any code.
If you can type, you can use Markdown.

EasyProgram uses Markdown so you can:

  • Make your program easier to read

  • Add structure without complex formatting tools

  • Focus on content, not design

Why EasyProgram Uses Markdown

Markdown helps keep programs:

  • Clean and readable on phones

  • Consistent across devices

  • Easy to update at the last minute

Most of the time, you can just type normally.
Markdown is optional, but helpful.

The Only Markdown You Really Need

Below are the most useful Markdown tips for beginners.

Headings

Use headings to separate sections.

Type this:

# Welcome
## Schedule
### Performers

It will look like:

  • Big heading

  • Medium heading

  • Smaller heading

💡 Tip: One # is bigger than two or three.

Bold Text

Use bold to highlight important information.

Type this:

**Doors open at 6:30 PM**

Italic Text

Use italics for emphasis or notes.

Type this:

*Intermission*

Lists

Lists are great for schedules, names, or bullet points.

Type this:

- Opening Welcome
- Student Performances
- Closing Remarks

You can also use numbers:

1. Opening Welcome
2. Student Performances
3. Closing Remarks

Line Breaks & Paragraphs

  • Press Enter once for a new line

  • Press Enter twice for a new paragraph

This helps keep text from feeling crowded.

A Simple Example

You might type:

## Tonight’s Program

**Welcome**
Opening remarks by the principal

**Performances**
- Choir
- Band
- Orchestra

*Thank you for joining us!*

And it will display as a clean, readable program.

Common Questions

Do I have to use Markdown?
No. You can type normally and your program will still look good.

Can I break anything?
Nope! You can always edit or remove formatting.

What if I make a mistake?
Just delete the extra symbols and keep going.
